Today I announced it officially, I am leaving Madrid and my job in July.
Don't know what awaits me professionally in Zurich, but still... Can't go on like this. Iberia frequent flyer points are not so worthy...
I feel a weird mix of sadness-happiness.
On the one hand, I am sad because I'm gonna miss the people of my office cause they are a lot of fun, and I am sad because somehow I know I am never gonna work in this field again and I don't know what I am gonna do next.
On the other hand, the nights of feeling guilty for putting D's life on hold, the nights of crying because I miss him are all over and we can re-start to live again, so I am happy. I am happy to know that now I can be happy, and we can be together. Plus, I feel relieved my running around the airports is over, my days of stressing about when to do the laundry/when to go to the dry cleaner/when to go to the hairdresser/etc are over.

Brussels weekend

My career options
This week I am having the chance to experiment some my possible career options...
I tried again my luck as casamentera, again with some colleagues. Again it didn't work out as I expected, but I guess it is normal when one of the two people you are trying to match is not single (I had erroneous information about this point, I only found out later).
I am halfway kidding. We will go to "the ball" of dave's firm. So, yes, long dress, uncomfy shoes, stupid bag and annoying echarpe, the full set.

This year it wasn't so hard to assume one is getting older. In deed for the first time in the day of my birthday since I was 15 (when I turned 15 I had my first crisis related to ageing because I realised I hadn't had time to enjoy my 14 years old) I have wished to turn many more years in the future. This is because you never know when are you gonna die run over by a car in a pedestrian street. It happened in Zaragoza on the 13th of April. It was the sister of a person I know and admire. Therefore, if we are in this world for 4 days we should enjoy this time as much as possible and value the time we are given.

A ver qué tal...

Spring time
Yes, finally we are having some spring time...
Madrid is again full of light, and although it is not very warm it is such an improvement!!!!!!!
When I look back, I realize Madrid is in winter not much lighter than Brussels (in Brussels my main complaint was not about the rain but about the lack of light).
I wish the weather in Madrid would stay like this all year, not hot, not cold, not rainy, just blue skies and light when I leave the office around 6:30 (I think that may happen around once a week if I am lucky).
Despite being today Tuesday 13, officially an unluky day, this is gonna be my lucky day of the week, I am gonna leave early ;-)

A Sua
Aonde for não quero dor
Eu tomo conta de você
Mas, te quero livre também
Como o tempo vai e o vento vem
Eu só quero que você caiba
No meu colo
Porque eu te adoro cada vez mais
Eu só quero que você siga
Para onde quiser
Que eu não vou ficar muito atrás
Tô com sintomas de saudade
Tô pensando em você
E como eu te quero tanto bem
Aonde for não quero dor
Eu tomo conta de você
Mas, te quero livre também
Como o tempo vai e o vento vem

First post of 2007
Finally a post this year...
Although it was not an experiment to check how many readers (if I have any...) would miss my posts, the result was clear... nobody did...
2007 did not bring me anything new yet, same old: Madrid is still Madrid (unspecial) , I still look forward to being in Zurich but I still like my job in Madrid...
The reason for the lack of posts, so far this year, has been threefold. Firstly, I no longer have my own computer at home, secondly, I have been either really busy at the office or trying to get my work done asap to be able to leave at 18:30 sharp. And finally, my life is uninteresting so I did not feel like there was much to post about.
As an interesting phenomena I had the following song in my head for a very prolonged period this weekend...
Siempre que te pregunto
que cuando, como y donde
tu siempre me respondes
Quizas, Quizas, Quizas
Y asi pasan los dias
y yo desesperado,
y Tu,Tu contestando
Quizas,Quizas,Quizas,
Estas perdiendo el tiempo,
pensando, pensando
Por lo que Tu mas quieras
hasta cuando, hasta cuando
Y asi pasan los dias,
y yo desesperado
y Tu,
Tu contestando
Quizas, Quizas, Quizas.

Stress and finally... Holydays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today... most stressful day in the whole week... don't know why but fridays are shitty... Last friday I only left the office at 10 pm
Today I'll leave early, I am going to Zürich!!!!
I am looking forward to this weekend. Anna, Rodrigo, Itai, Elise, Pawel and Michael are coming to spend New Year in Zürich, it will be a lot fun, although I am as well a little bit stressed about the organizational issues, cause we will be "a lot of pipol in da haus", but anyway I am so bad in organization that for sure Dave has everything organized...
I'll be on holydays the whole first week of January!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to Madrid
Again... Madrid
The Christmas weekend was great ;-) Specially to be back home the whole family , since it has been difficult in the last years to actually meet all of us at the same time, the three sisters together, everybody talking at the same time... the usual, but certainly not so usual...
Seeing Carolina, Patricia, Jorge and Silvia was very nice, very refreshing... I am gonna try to go back to Zaragoza for a weekend soon.
The trip back to Madrid I had a lot of time to listen to music (i.e. Amaral) and to play with pipín (my virtual dog) and even to study Portuguese...
hugs

Oyendo Amaral...
Quiero vivir, quiero gritar
Quiero sentir el universo sobre mi
Quiero correr en libertad
Quiero encontrar mi sitio
Una broma del destino
Una melodía acelerada
En una cancion que nunca acaba
Ya he tenido suficiente
Quiero vivir, quiero gritar
Quiero sentir el universo sobre mi
Quiero correr en libertad
Quiero llorar de felicidad
Quiero vivir
Quiero sentir el universo sobre mi
Como un naufrago en el mar
Quiero encontrar mi sitio
Sólo encontrar mi sitio
Quiero sentir el universo sobre mi

loca o cuerda?
Qué complicado no?
I am sorry Dave, I apologize as well to all those readers who do not understand Spanish, for this posting in Spanish, it could not be in English or in French, because in these languages there is no difference between ser and estar. In the end, probably a good summary is just that I am in love.

Belgium, till when?
Today, as almost everyday, I had a café con hielo while reading my favourite newspaper, El País, in a café near my office before going to work.
Regarding the café con hielo, well it is one of my old vices of living abroad... In Spain it is very common to drink café con hielo in summer (not so much in winter as I do), but being it so difficult to get abroad since you need good coffee and somehow a minimum degree of intelligence on the part of the waiter (meaning that 30% of the times that I ever ordered a small coffee and a glass with ice cubes abroad the waiter put the ice into a glass with water, or even refused to serve it, and another 50% of the times the coffee was too watery) I never gave up in trying to get it. And thus I still drink café con hielo even in winter.
So much for the café con hielo. Let's go back to the situation, I am drinking my café and reading my newspaper, and a piece of news regarding Belgium catched my eye. It is funny that when I was in Belgium I always got the news about Spain with a certain delay of a day or two. Well it is not that now that I am in Spain I am looking to hear the news about Belgium but this one certainly deserved my attention. Only yesterday I was having some drinks with Jùlia, a colleague from the office and we were discussing that Belgium is really a country where almost nothing works, a country divided with a weird mix of organization-unorganization for everything which definitely doesn't work. All of you who know me from Bruges-Brussels have heard me complain so heavily about Brussels that know exactly what I am talking about.
Well, the news started this way:
To be honest I read it and wondered: Belgium shivering because the end of Belgium has arrived? I thought it may be sad but I bet loads people were not surprised! Indeed, further down in the article the following sentence was underlined:
"El 89% de los telespectadores creyó la noticia"
In fact this was a fake news program in tv playing the "war of the worlds" with the audience.
How lovely, belgians with a sense of humour!!!! I only met a few of them in my life, and all of them college fellows (and Davy). I really would have liked to see this program, well faked, with conections to all the Parliaments in Belgium (he he) and announcing that King Alberto has resigned and moved to Africa... And I would have loved to see the debates afterwards when it was known that it was just a joke, and now the program has been acused of spreading false information. The program has defended itself saying that it is as much of a lie as the ones of the politicians in TV, ie.: US saying it would go to Irak to find the mass destruction weapons.
The ironic point is that we Spaniards, do not need to go so far... In the first quoted sentence just change Flandes by Catalonia, Belgium by Spain and belga by Spanish, and you get a piece of news we got tired to hear this year... Whether this is true (Spain no longer exists, etc) or a lie I will not enter on the matter, but nobody ran to the cash machines as it happened in Belgium...
